LeBreton Flats - Site Excavation, Sorting and Disposal

Location: Ottawa, ON

QMLP completed a complex excavation program involving detailed segregation of random fill and debris material to segregate clean fill, contaminated fill and debris material. Construction of a 2 million litre lined water storage pond to allow for storage and/or treatment of excavation water, and the construction of a storm water pond;

The scope of work included the following:

  • Installation of environmental protection measures (surface water management plan, equipment decontamination facility and silt fencing) to mitigate any off-site impacts;
  • Construction of numerous soil stockpiling/characterization areas, rock crushing and soil screening for beneficial re-use;
  • Excavation and segregation of approximately 750,000 tonnes of suspect waste and debris material;
  • Physical sorting to reduce confirmed soil volumes;
  • Transportation and disposal of 466,000 tonnes of contaminated soils;
  • Final cleaning of fractured bedrock throughout the site;
  • Demolition and removal of numerous underground structures including stone and concrete foundations and reinforced concrete pads
