Plant Site Remediation

Location: Ft. Saskatchewan and Leduc, AB

Quantum Murray was retained to perform the site remediation of two sites; the first in Ft. Saskatchewan and the second in Leduc, Alberta.

The combined scope of work for both projects included the following:

  • Excavation, transport and disposal of over 10,000 metric tonnes of metals impacted soil to an approved landfill facility;
  • Source, load, transport and backfill the site to acceptable industrial standards;

Each project had significant risks associated with their completions: The Fort Saskatchewan project was completed within an active plant facility. At all times, other people and equipment were working nearby. The site was very congested and care was required so that the multitude of work being completed simultaneously could be completed safely.

Health and Safety was the cornerstone of QMLP's operation. This statement is evidenced by our exception safety record working in the most challenging of situations.

The Leduc project required the careful excavation of contaminated soil surrounding an active rail line. The shut down of the rail line was not possible so extensive communication and coordination with the rail owner was required to proceed with the project. During the completion of the projects, a number of daily working hazards were identified, discussed and measures were implemented to avoid incidents. The overall result was the successful completion of both projects with zero incidents.
