Chemical Plant HazMat Abatement and Demolition

Location: Edmonton, AB

The 30+ blocks at this former vinyl processing plant were shut down and QMLP was retained to complete Type III outdoor abatement of RCFs, drop a 200’ flair stack and demolish 3 storage tanks (each tank 120’ wide by 48’high and weighs 500 tonnes).

A full metals recovery program was put in place and an on-site shredder/bailer prepares piping and other miscellaneous materials. Along with the carbon steel recovered on this site, the team worked with various exotic metals including monel, inkanel, stainless, copper and titanium.

In another section of the facility, two large spheres made of steel and lined with perolite (insulation) were demolished. Prior to the demolition, pockets were made in each sphere and the perolite was vacuumed out and disposed of as hazardous waste. Once cleaned of insulation, the remaining structures were demolished, torched and recycled.
