QMLP was successful in completing a complex excavation around a barge slip involving the removal and off site transportation and disposal of hazardous waste contaminated soil.
The scope of work included the following:
- Excavation above and below high water tide mark, around a barge slip during ongoing densification and pile driving operations;
- Temporary stockpiling of approximately 48,000T of heavy metal impacted soil;
- Removal of large concrete footings and timber piles along the barge slip and water front, which formed the former ship dock;
- Importation and placement, from a barge and conveyor belt situated in False Creek, of approximately 50,000T of backfill material;
- Transportation and off site disposal of the hazardous heavy metals impacted soil;
- Working with the densification contractor to ensure safety, coordination and maximum efficiency on a busy site;
- Complying with all regulatory requirements when working near the water including the Department of Fisheries and Oceans;
- Final site grading and contouring; and
- Aiding the sheet pile and dewatering contractors during an emergency leak in the sheet pile barge slip damn construction.
