Location: Colwood, BC
QMLP was awarded the Risk Management Plan Implementation for a Colwood refueling facility.
The area was most recently used to dry out non-leachable metals contaminated dredgate.
Once the stockpile was graded, the project required the import of approximately 45,000 metric tonnes of granular material. The material was used to cap the top and sides of the stockpile.
The scope of work included the following:
- Clearing and grubbing of the site;
- Relocation and replacement of security fence;
- Relocation of fire hydrant;
- Construction of a toe access/perimeter road around the site;
- Construction of a gravel perimeter road on top of the graded stockpile;
- Construction of proposed tee box area;
- Embankment construction using non-woven geotextile and 600mm blast rock to 500mm thick lifts;
- Placement of shot rock on the existing slopes to a depth of 600mm. Plug up holes to prevent animal access to the under lying dredgate material; and
- Stockpiling of capping material containing a mixture of various gravels, sand, silt, clay and organics.
